On Tuesday, August 18 from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation and Norfolk Southern will be closing Rixlew Lane at the railroad crossing just north of Wellington Road in order to replace the railroad crossing.

Structure fires in dormitories, fraternities, sororities and barracks peak during September and October between 5 and 11 p.m. as well as on weekends, when students prepare snacks or cook meals. If your child resides in a dorm or off-campus residence, remain adamant in educating him or her on being aware and practicing fire safety.

The annual event from Aug. 14 to 22 includes livestock and produce exhibits, home arts and crafts entries, thrill rides, live music, food, nightly entertainment, baby contest, rodeo, demolition derbies and much more. Through the years it has been a fun and educational attraction and this year will be no exception at the 66th annual fair, at the Fairgrounds, a mile north of Manassas on Va. Route 234.

“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” high-visibility crackdown will run August 21st through the Labor Day holiday on September 7th. Prince William County Police, as well as law enforcement agencies throughout Virginia and the region, are targeting this time period because holiday weekends bring a surge in drunk-driving.
