Healthy Kids micro grant for Gainesville Middle School

Gainesville Middle School is one of seven public schools in Northern Virginia to receive a Healthy Kids grant from The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia. Grants up to $2,000 for the 2020-21 school year were awarded to support programs that promote healthy lifestyles through increased exercise and physical activity or healthy nutrition.

Crisis Negotiation Team dispatched to Nokesville residence for domestic with weapons

Prince William County Police Department's MPO Renee Carr, police department representative, reported that on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 12:21PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 14500 block of Leary St. in Nokesville (20181) to investigate a domestic with weapons. While investigating, officers learned there were additional occupants inside the home with the accused at the time of the incident.

Triangle man charged with attempted rape of Woodbridge woman

The victim, a 44-year-old woman, reported to police that she was inside the residence when an acquaintance, identified as the accused, followed her into a room where he prevented her from leaving. During the encounter, the accused attempted to rape the victim.

Dad arrested after attempting to take 3-year-old son from Woodbridge home

On September 5 at 8:42PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 15300 block of Elizabeth Burbage Lp. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a fight. The altercation escalated when the accused retrieved a machete and confronted the child’s mother and her family.

Shoe sale via Snapchat goes awry; purchaser ends up in hospital; suspect arrested in Woodbridge

On September 5 at 8:22PM, officers responded to the area of West Longview Dr. near the Prince William Pkwy in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a robbery. The victim, a 27-year-old man, reported to police that he made arrangements to purchase shoes from an unknown seller via “Snapchat” near the above location.

Two men held without bond after being arrested for domestic abuse and battery

Two Woodbridge men have been charged with domestic assault and battery in separate incidents of verbal altercations that escalated. The men are being held without bond. One incident involved a 10-monh-old child. A child abuse charge was also placed by police.

A Funeral Mass for Christopher Jon Snyder, 71, of Gainesville will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Rd., Gainesville, VA 20155 on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020, at 1 p.m. A reception will be held immediately following. Snyder was a U.S. Army and US Coast Guard veteran.

Agnes S. Merlino, a church founder, teacher, mother of three, Woodbridge area resident for 61 years

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, Mary’s Way, Woodbridge, for Agnes Sims Merlino, 90, who peacefully passed away with her family at her side Aug. 12, 2020. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery. She was a founding member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, a teacher and the mother of three children. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2-5 p.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home, Occoquan Road, Woodbridge, VA.
