“State police will have the majority of its uniformed workforce on patrol from Wednesday through Sunday of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend,” according to Colonel W. Steven Flaherty, Virginia State Police Superintendent.

In response to a heroin and prescription drug epidemic that claimed more lives in Virginia in 2014 than car crashes, Attorney General Mark R. Herring is premiering Heroin: The Hardest Hit, a powerful documentary about the danger of heroin and prescription drugs and their impact on Virginia families and communities.

A community tradition, the Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Old Bridge United Methodist Church in Lake Ridge, is taking a year off, but will return in 2016. Old Bridge has hosted the dinner for some 20 years.

The Accomack Co Sheriff's Office is looking for HOWARD SHRIEVES JR. He is a black male, age 80, approximately 6'1 and weighing approximately 175 lbs. He was last known to be driving a black 1999 Ford Escort with Virginia plate VKB 2761. He was wearing a blue plaid shirt, blue pants, black boots, blue jacket and a brown baseball cap.

Dominion Resources announced Nov. 23 that it is providing $1 million in grants through its charitable foundation to help feed, shelter and care for people in need across 12 states this holiday season. The Critical Community Needs grants will be awarded by the Dominion Foundation and several in the Prince William area are to be recipients.

This holiday season, the American Red Cross urges individuals to give something that means something – a blood or platelet donation. Negative blood types are especially needed.

NBC4’s next Community Shred is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Local food banks SERVE and ACTS will be collecting nonperishable items to help fill a growing need during the holidays.

Prince William County will be well represented at the state capitol during the holiday season this year thanks to Frank Chergosky, a member of the Woodbridge Senior Center who carved an ornament to hang on this year's holiday tree in the Executive Mansion in Richmond.
