Prince William County Public School officials project that they will hire 875 teachers and counselors this fall. The new educators participated in a two-day orientation and induction program—a conference on Aug. 18 at Freedom High School and an orientation at their schools on Aug. 19.

Ryan Sawyers, chairman of the Prince William County School Board, issued the first in a series of online newsletters on Friday, Aug. 12. Sawyers said he intends to publish more newsletters "from time to time to share great school stories and information."
The US Transportation Security Agency (TSA) reports that its officers discovered a record breaking 81 firearms this week in carry-on bags around the nation Aug. 12-18. Of the 81 firearms discovered, 70 were loaded and 31 had a round chambered.
