Virginia students again outperformed their peers nationwide by significant margins on the ACT in 2016 as the number of high school seniors in VIrginia taking the college-readiness examination continued to grow.
US Secretary of Interior Sally Jewell has appointed David G. Brickley of Woodbridge and president of the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance, to a five-year term as a member of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park Commission.

On Tuesday, August 23rd at 1:42 a.m., fire and rescue units were dispatched to a structure fire in a single-family home located in the 14800 block of Danville Road in Dale City. Upon arrival, fire and rescue crews observed fire blazing from the rear of a 2-story split level house. Firefighters extinguished the fire that had extended into the home and through the roof.
Canine Companions for Independence (CC4I), a national nonprofit providing assistance dogs for children and adults with disabilities, reports in a press release that Brodie II, an assistance dog raised by a Manassas woman, was recently placed with a U.S. wounded veteran enrolled in a new joint study program with the Veterans Administration and CC4I.

The public is invited to participate in a Community Dialogue on public middle school facilities in Fauquier County with a special focus on Taylor and Warrenton Middle Schools. The Community Dialogue will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Fauquier High School cafeteria in Warrenton.
People from across the county will have their first opportunity to discover, inspect and try out the new Prince William County Public Schools Aquatics Center at a free grand opening celebration, Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
