On June 7, 2017, the Prince William County School Board approved, among other actions, purchase of 92.4 acres of land at University Boulevard for the proposed 13th high school; and reclassification of school nurses by moving them from the classified scale to the teacher's salary scale commensurate with how teachers are placed on the scale.

Adam Russo, formerly director of food services for Hanover County Public Schools, has been appointed director of School Food and Nutrition Services effective July 3, 2017. Russo replaces Serena Suthers who is retiring after decades of service. Other administrative appointments are noted.

King Elementary second-grade teacher Rebecca Kronthal, 2016-17 PWCS Teacher of the Year, is the School Division’s nominee for the Virginia Region IV Teacher of the Year. The Virginia Department of Education will select the 2018 Mary V. Bicouvaris Virginia Teacher of the Year from among the teachers selected as regional teachers of the year.

Governor Terry McAuliffe signed two bills at Forest Park High School June 6. The laws that become effective July 1 are designed to change the environment at Virginia schools, enhance professional development for school counselors, and save lives.

The Prince William County Police Department will deploy Body Worn Cameras this fall. The roll out of the Body-Worn Cameras (BWC) will begin in September and continue through the end of the year.
