Bugler Donna Flory named Prince William County’s Volunteer of the Quarter

Desiree Wolfe, of the Prince William County Office of Executive Management, nominated Donna Flory as PWC Volunteer of the Quarter. The presentation reads in part, “Over the last two decades, Donna has played in various ceremonies and dedications in honor of Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day and 9/11.  Her rendition of ‘Taps’ continues to bring dignity and meaning to these very important events." 

Prince William Schools appoint new administrators

Ten new administrators have been appointed to new positions. Nine are located at Prince William County schools; one is in the central purchasing office.

Andrew Buchheit to lead Va. Assoc. of Elementary School Principals

Andrew Buchheit, principal at T. Clay Wood Elementary School since 2011, was officially named president-elect of the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP) during the state conference last week. Buchheit will take the reins of president in 2019.

Fred Lynn MS principal Hamish Brewer chosen Northern Virginian of the Year by magazine

Northern Virginia Magazine has selected Hamish Brewer, principal of Fred Lynn Middle School, as a 2018 Northern Virginian of the Year. Brewer was recognized with this honor for the impact his hard work and dedication have made on his students, school, and community, according to a news release from Prince William County Schools.

George Mason Univ. to get almost $3 million for nursing over next four years, senators report

U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced $2,774,825 in federal funding to support nursing education at George Mason University over the next four years. The funding will be used to recruit, admit, and retain students interested in pursuing nursing careers in Prince William and Fairfax Counties.
