Andrew Buchheit to lead Va. Assoc. of Elementary School Principals

Andrew Buchheit, who has served as principal at T. Clay Wood Elementary School since 2011, was officially named president-elect of the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP) during the state conference held this week in Williamsburg. Buchheit will take the reins of president in 2019.

VAESP is a professional organization serving elementary and middle school principals and other education leaders throughout Virginia. The goal of the VAESP is to:

  Serve as an advocate for children and youth by granting them access to an excellent education;
  Promote and maintain high professional standards and leadership among principals;
  Increase public awareness of elementary and middle school education as the foundation for all future academic achievement; and
  Serve as a local representative for elementary and middle-school education to state and federal agencies, the news media, researchers, educators, and other education and child advocacy group.

“Being a member of VAESP and NAESP allows me to connect to and learn from administrators throughout Virginia and the country, and add my voice to theirs to advocate for our students, staff and schools,” Buchheit said.

Buchheit has been an educator with PWCS since 1993, serving as a teacher at Lake Ridge Elementary, summer school principal at Mountain View and Lake Ridge Elementary Schools, and as a teacher on administrative assignment at Bristow Run Elementary. He also served as an assistant principal at McAuliffe Elementary, and as principal at Bristow Run Elementary. He is a former principal of the year for PWCS, and is currently working on a doctorate in educational leadership from Walden University.

Buchheit also served as the the Virginia State Representative to the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
