Rep. Comstock joins SALUTE bill aimed at helping vets overcome addiction and PTSD

Rep. Barbara Comstock has joined in co-sponsoring legislation that would provide yearly federal funding for veterans’ treatment courts. These courts would help veterans coping with addiction and other mental disorders receive specialized care when accused of certain non-violent crimes.

Free local tax help for those earning less than $53,000

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) is a national program that offers people who earned less than $53,000 in 2014 a good way to get their tax returns done for free. Tax experts will be at the Dr. A J. Ferlazzo Building, at 15741 Donald Curtis Drive in Woodbridge, on Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., from now until April 11, to help people with their taxes.

Anderson, Stuart patron bills to protect civil liberties for the 21st century

In describing his bill, Del. Anderson emphasized that these protections are needed in the face of recent disclosures that several Hampton Roads jurisdictions authorized the collection and sharing of personal and private telephone data among jurisdictions. In one case, a city manager authorized the program without the authority to do so, a press release said.

Dog’s actions alert owner to call 9-1-1 in Fitzwater Drive garage fire

On Monday, Jan. 26 at approximately 2 a.m. fire and rescue units were dispatched to a structure fire located in the 14000 block of Fitzwater Drive in Nokesville, after a family dog repeatedly signaled to go outside. As the owner approached the door, he observed the garage engulfed in flames and immediately called 911.

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today, Jan. 27, that Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased 0.2 percentage point in December to 4.8 percent and was down 0.4 percentage point from December 2013. Virginia Department of Transportation's I-66 Public Information Meeting that was scheduled for tonight, Jan. 27, at Bull Run Elementary School in Centreville has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Still scheduled are the Jan. 28 info session at Battlefield High School in Haymarket and the Jan. 29 info session at VDOT headquarters in Fairfax.
