Sugar Grove Station, WV was a United States Navy military base to support part of National Security Agency’s surveillance operation. When it became unnecessary to house staff at the base, it was retired in 2015 and put up for auction to the highest bidder over $1 million. The site is in the National Radio Quiet Zone, so cell phones, WiFi and any equipment operating on radio frequencies are restricted from use.

Victim’s roommate in June 5 Woodbridge homicide arrested in New York

On June 5, detectives from PWC Police Department's Homicide Unit identified the suspect involved in the murder of Najee Mason in the 14900 block of Potomac Heights Pl in Woodbridge on June 4. Preliminary investigation alleged that the suspect, identified as Abdisalam Ali ROBLE, fatally shot the victim following an altercation between them. Suspect and victim were roommates and known to one another.

Tapping new leaders is a time-honored JROTC tradition

A PWCS tradition for more than a decade, new Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) unit commanders and officers were inducted during a medal ceremony on May 26. The first event in 2004 involved only four schools and a handful of family members. Now there are units in nine schools and more than 1,600 cadets countywide, and their ranks are growing every year.

New lanes open to reduce congestion on US 50

The City of Fairfax announces the opening of a third westbound lane along Route 50 (Fairfax Boulevard) from Bevan Drive to Jermantown Road. The improvements include the widening of south bound Jermantown Road to allow for two through lanes adjacent to the left turn lane and additional intersection improvements.
