On May 9 at 9:54AM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the area of Heathcote Blvd and Lee Hwy in Gainesville (20155) to investigate a crash, according to an Aug. 21 report from Sgt. Jonathan Perok, police department spokesman.

Four southbound lanes of Rt. 28 from Waxpool to Rt. 50 now complete

With construction work now officially complete, drivers have four lanes on southbound Route 28 from Waxpool Road to Route 50, as well as northbound Route 28 from McLearen Road to the Dulles Toll Road (lanes first opened in late June). The portion of the fourth southbound lane from Waxpool Road to Innovation Avenue opened to traffic in January.The spot widening began in September 2015.

Area Agency on Aging program has free legal services for veterans

Prince William Area Agency on Aging's Wills for Vets program is set to help Prince William, Manassas and Manassas Park veterans draw up legal documents. Interested veterans will need to attend three meetings to get things in order. All of the Saturday meetings will be at the Woodbridge Senior Center at 13850 Church Hill Drive in Woodbridge. Each meeting will concentrate on one legal document and last 90 minutes.

August 17 update on Equine Herpes Myeloencephalopathy in Virginia

On August 15, the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) reported that its Animal Health Laboratory in Warrenton confirmed a diagnosis of Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) on two horses from Culpeper County. A third horse on the quarantined farm developed a fever the evening of August 16 and tested positive for the neuropath genic strain of the Equine Herpes Virus -1. The quarantine is extended until September 6th.

Special glasses needed to prevent severe and permanent damage to eyes during eclipse

Every Prince William County school has been provided with informational flyers for safe viewing and a limited number of certified eclipse glasses to be distributed to the community on a first-come, first-served basis, according to a PWCS news release. Additional supplies are available at the Irene V. Hylton Planetarium, at Hylton High School, while they last.

Update: VDOT to close Loudoun Drive in Haymarket Aug. 16-17 to replace culvert

Loudoun Drive (Route 615) between Mountain Road (Route 600) and Rolling Ridge Road (Route 1750) will be closed to through traffic, weather permitting, from 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 for culvert replacement, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. This was rescheduled because of Aug. 15 rain.
