A nine-year-old pony mare from Fauquier County tested positive for WNV at VDACS’ regional animal health laboratory in Warrenton and a USDA lab in Iowa. The horse was not vaccinated for WNV and has recovered. Symptoms included loss of control of bodily movements and partial paralysis in the hind limbs, dazed appearance and lack of ability to stand.

Partnering with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement mobilization, approximately 89 law enforcement agencies—including local and Virginia State Police—will operate 94 checkpoints and 612 saturation patrols Aug. 17-Sept. 3.

Ashton Avenue between Crestwood Drive and Lomond Drive in Manassas will be closed to through traffic Wednesday night, Aug. 15 and Thursday night, Aug. 16 from 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning. The closing is for Prince William County Service Authority water main work, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 7, the Manassas City Police Department will be hosting its annual family-friendly National Night Out event from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Manassas Museum, 9101 Prince William Street, Manassas. The event includes demonstrations by first responders, free Museum admission, opportunities to meet City staff and volunteers who help keep residents safe year-round.
