“Shiver in the River” has new look

It's no surprise that Keep Virginia Beautiful's largest annual fundraiser, Shiver in the River, will look different this year due to COVID.

Virginia governor invites residents to “make a difference” during Earth Week

All 36 Virginia State Parks will offer special programming or volunteer projects related to preserving the environment, recycling, upcycling, developing natural habitats or beautifying parks. Other projects include habitat creation for the threatened Monarch Butterfly, weeding, trail maintenance and plantings.

Volunteer needs in our community 11/21/14

Volunteers are needed to assist Habitat for Humanity with outdoor work, Brain Injury Services as friendly visitors, Catholic Charities with teaching English and computer skills, Rainbow Riding with a silent auction and decorating and two adult literacy organizations.

Know a great volunteer? Virginia’s governor wants to know

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced Nov. 12 that nominations are now being accepted for the 2015 Governor’s Volunteerism and Community Service Awards. The nomination period ends at 6:30 p.m. January 28.
