Mosquito season is already here in many parts of Virginia and will blanket the entire state soon. That means it’s time to start thinking about vaccinating horses against mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).

On Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Manassas City Police Department will be partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Prince William County Police Department at Novant Health UVA Health System on Sudley Rd. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.to provide the public a safe, convenient, and anonymous way to dispose of unused and unwanted medication.
Manassas National Battlefield Park (MNBP) will conduct a scheduled burn between April 3-13. According to the MNBP Superintendent, the planned fire will be adjacent to the eastern edge of the Brawner Farm area and will cover up to 45 acres of open fields and scrub.
City of Manassas and Prince William County will be participating in the regional test of the Wireless Emergency Alert System, April 5, between 10 and 11 a.m. This will be the United States' first live regional test using geo-target capabilities, reaching up to 5.2M

U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) joined Democratic colleagues on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee to call on Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN) to hold a HELP hearing as soon as possible to examine the causes and remedies for school shootings and other mass shootings. Kaine and his Democratic colleagues believe gun violence is a public health crisis, putting it in the purview of their committee that covers health.
