Anglers beware: DGIF issues advisory on websites claiming to sell Virginia fishing licenses

DGIF reminds anglers that http://www.GoOutdoorsVA.com and www.dgif.virginia.gov are the only official websites to purchase Virginia fishing and hunting licenses and permits. DGIF said in a news release that some of the sites it is aware of customers have reported completing transactions believing they were buying a license or permit, when, in fact, they purchased an informational guide.

NOVA Manassas and Loudoun to conduct STEM series “Assisting Females in Technology”

To help advance women in technology, NOVA has launched a college-wide project, Assisting Females in Technology (aFIT), a series of free interactive workshops and panel sessions. The purpose of aFIT is to encourage local middle and high school female students to explore the possibilities of choosing a tech career. About 80 students have preregistered for the series

PRTC awarded $3.6 million FTA grant to buy six new commuter buses; delivery expected in 2019

Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) has been selected by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to receive a $3.6 million grant to purchase six new OmniRide commuter buses, according to a PRTC news release. The grant award will enable PRTC to replace six older OmniRide commuter buses that have exceeded their useful life. There are 125 buses in the fleet.

National Park Service plans prescribed fire at Wolf Trap April 6 if weather permits

Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts is preparing for a small prescribed fire today April 6, from 10:30 a.m. to at least 1:30 p.m., weather permitting. The planned fire will be adjacent to the parking lots at the Native Meadow with the goal to maintain wildlife habitat, soil nutrition replenishment and controlling woody and invasive species.
