The proposed Prince William County Public Schools FY 2018 budget Superintendent Steve Walts unveiled at the Feb. 1 School Board meeting is designed to serve the needs and aspirations of each of the nearly 91,000 students expected for the 2017-18 school year. The proposed $1.14 billion operating and debt service spending plan addresses School Board priorities to maintain the incremental progress achieved to reduce class size, close achievement gaps, and limit the use of educational trailers.

On January 31 at 6:06PM, investigators from the Prince William County Police Department's Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Rippon Blvd near Jefferson Davis Hwy in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a crash involving a pedestrian.
Prince William Public Works Department, Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition, and Prince William Soil & Water Conservation District are teaming up to clean up a portion of Powell's Creek near Riverwoods at Woodbridge Apartments Feb. 25,  and they are inviting the public to help. The event starts at 9 a.m.

The new Dumfries Neighborhood Library is scheduled to open Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 18115 Triangle Shopping Plaza in Dumfries. A public celebration of the move is planned for Saturday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m.
Despite Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) budget cuts to support the Adopt-A- Stream program statewide, the Prince William Soil & Water Conservation District is continuing the program at the local level, according to its February Watershed newsletter.
U.S. Representatives Barbara Comstock (VA-10) and Debbie Dingell (MI-12), co-chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Cancer Prevention Caucus, Feb. 1 joined doctors, experts and advocates for the first caucus meeting of the 115th Congress. 
On January 31, detectives with the Violent Crimes Bureau received a tip from Crime Solvers which lead to the arrest of Mohammad Ekram SHERDIL by members of the US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and NYPD detectives in New York.  The accused was wanted for a shooting which occurred in the 3500 block of Forestdale Ave in Woodbridge on December 9. The accused remains in custody in New York pending extradition back to Virginia.
