July 31 in federal district court in Danville, Judge Jackson Kiser ruled from the bench that he will dissolve his 2001 injunction that had allowed the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) to place the confederate battle flag on certain specialty license plates in Virginia.
Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA), who represents Manassas, Manassas Park and parts of Prince William County, issued the following statement on the The Hire More Heroes Act being signed into law:
Legislation enacted during the 2015 General Assembly (Senate Bill 1319) combined the three existing sales tax holidays into one, three-day holiday in August. The legislation took effect on July 1, 2015.

American Red Cross urges blood donors to give in the final weeks of summer to help prevent a blood shortage. Donations are needed now to help ensure blood is available for patients in need. Donors with types AB, O negative, B negative and A negative blood are especially encouraged to donate.

Governor Terence R. McAuliffe has proclaimed August as Peach Month in Virginia. In the proclamation, he reminds consumers that different varieties of peaches ripen at different times during the season, so there’s a plentiful supply of fruit throughout the summer months, with peak season in August.
Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1), who represents part of Prince William County, was named an Honorary Marine in a ceremony Monday in Washington. Wittman is the 96th recipient of the Honorary Marine title, which recognizes civilians who have made “extraordinary contributions to the Marine Corps.”
