Senator Mark Obenshain (R-Rockingham), Chairman of the Senate Courts of Justice Committee, and member of the Virginia State Crime Commission, issued the following statement in response to the Governor’s Executive Action to automatically restore the civil rights of over 200,000 violent and non-violent convicted felons.
Governor Terry McAuliffe and other Virginia officials are on a weeklong trade and marketing mission to attend Hannover Messe in Germany, the world's largest industrial fair, and conduct 40+ meetings there, in Belgium and the United Kingdom to bring new jobs and economic activity to the state.
Governor Terry McAuliffe has restored the voting and civil rights of more than 200,000 Virginians who were convicted of felonies, served their time and completed any supervised release, parole or probation requirements. Each of those Virginians will immediately regain the right to register to vote, to run for office, to serve on a jury and to serve as a notary public, according to a news release.
Open registration for Northern Virginia Community College’s fall 2016 semester begins May 2. Students may secure classes early while the most choices are available and not pay tuition until July 25. Starting July 25, tuition is due by 5 p.m. on the next business day after registering.
Prince William County School Board, Superintendent, and Administrative Leadership Team will recognize and honor retiring School Division employees during a ceremony and reception on Tuesday, April 26 at 6 p.m. at the Kelly Leadership Center.

Prince William County Public Schools would receive $9.3 million less than needed to cover the School Board’s unanimously approved FY 2017 budget under a flat tax plan and revenue sharing cuts being considered by the Board of County Supervisors, according to a PWCS news release.
On April 25, the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College will celebrate National DNA Day with several activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
