The University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg will host a 1st Congressional District Debate on Monday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. in George Washington Hall’s Dodd Auditorium. U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman, a Republican, and Democratic challenger Vangie Williams will face off for the first time.

Three community conversations are scheduled to share thoughts, ideas, and suggestions with the Planning Office and other County agencies.

Donations of non-perishable food for community Thanksgiving baskets are now being accepted at participating schools. Nonprofit organizations will pick up the food Nov. 13 and distribute the baskets prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. The deadline for food donation delivery to schools is Nov.12.

Volunteers are needed to help advise on school boundaries. Wanted are local community members and/or parents or legal guardians of students who attend Antietam, Bel Air, Belmont, Featherstone, Kerrydale, Kilby, Lake Ridge, Leesylvania, Marshall, Marumsco Hills, Minnieville, Occoquan, Old Bridge, Penn, Potomac View, Rockledge, Springwoods, Vaughan, or Westridge Elementary Schools.

Citing overcrowded schools, too much traffic and missed opportunities, Ann Wheeler of Haymarket, immediate past president of the Prince William Committee of 100 and a former chairman of the Prince William Board of Social Services, says she will bring vision, leadership, integrity and inclusivity to her race for Chairman of Prince William County Board of Supervisors.
