Occoquan Forest house fire damage estimated at $65,000

Prince William County Fire and Rescue reported Feb. 18 that on Monday, Feb. 16 at approximately 5:30 p.m. fire and rescue crews were dispatched to a structure fire in a single-family home located in the 6200 block of Occoquan Forest Drive in Manassas.

Man burned while trying to keep warm outside on Minnieville Road; victim airlifted

On Tuesday, February 16th at approximately 5:30 a.m., fire and rescue crews were dispatched to a tent fire located in the 14100 block of Minnieville Road in Woodbridge. Upon arrival, fire and rescue units discovered an adult male residing in the woods with burns to his hands and front of his body.

County residents asked to clear sidewalks of snow and “adopt” a fire hydrant

While there is no legal requirement in Prince William County to do so, residents and businesses are encouraged to remove snow from sidewalks, if they are able.

1400 gymnasts including first male competitors expected for GMS’ “Flip for the Fight” Feb. 20-22

GMS Gymnastics will host Flip for the Fight this weekend from Friday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. through Sunday, Feb. 22 at 9 p.m. at the NOVA Fieldhouse located at 14810 Murdock Street in Chantilly. This is the sixth annual event since its inception 2009. Some 1400 athletes are expected. The general public is invited. Tickets at the door are $5-$10.

I cannot tell you how often I have heard the above phrase from parents, politicians, and yes, educators themselves. Parents, usually those with formal education, like me, expressed sorrow for me during my principal era saying, "If only parents did their jobs!" My response, "Most do."
