Elementary singers prepare for All County Chorus program on Feb. 24

The annual Prince William All-County Elementary Chorus of approximately 175 singers will take the stage on Saturday, Feb. 24, at Charles J. Colgan, Sr. High School. This year the chorus will perform under the direction of Marsteller Middle School Choir Director Philip Keirstead.

Freedom High School Band marches in Governor’s Inaugural Parade Jan. 13

Freedom High School "Soul Squad" Marching Eagle Band participated in the Virginia Governor's Inaugural Parade in Richmond on Saturday, Jan. 13. Only four bands across the commonwealth were selected this year, and Freedom was one of two high school bands participating.

NOVA’s Manassas campus invites community invited to attend International Night Nov. 20

The evening from 7 to 10 p.m. will feature a journey around the world showcasing the many cultures that are represented at NOVA-Manassas. The event includes a keynote speaker, skits, music, raffles, food and more.

New American Roots Series - country and bluegrass music - begins Oct. 6 at Hylton Center

Hylton Performing Arts Center will begin a new program entitled American Roots Series, presented by F.H. Furr Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning & Electrical as part of the venue’s 2017-2018 season. The series will feature the best of bluegrass, folk, country, and blues in up-close and down-home concerts at the GregoryFamily Theater.

Marsteller girls to attend special summer “music camp”

Rising eighth-graders in the Women’s Choir at Marsteller Middle School will be in “music camp” in August, working with Choral Teacher Julie Phelan to prepare for the high point of their careers, a 30-minute performance before an audience of thousands of music educators in November. This is the second time that Marsteller has won an invitation to bring the choir to the Virginia Music Educators Association annual conference.

On Sunday, May 21, Prince William Community Band will host its 9th Annual Band Festival at the Harris Pavilion, 2-6 p.m., at 9201 Center Street, Manassas, VA.

Armed suspect arrested at a Haymarket church, while service in progress Sept. 24

The investigation revealed that Fairfax County police contacted Prince William County police after their agency received information from police in Anne Arundel County, MD regarding a citizen residing in Laurel who reported recent suspicious and concerning online postings on Instagram from an individual later identified as the accused. In the postings, vague threats of violence were made, some of which included images of a location later determined to be Park Valley Church in Haymarket.
