Prince William County fire and police officials are investigating a July 20, 2016 fire at a Gainesville auto repair facility as a possible arson, according to a news release from the Fire Marshal's Office.

The outstanding men and women of the Fire and Rescue Departments of Prince William County and surrounding jurisdictions have been working hard all day with V-DOT in the hot weather to clear I-66 near Haymarket and ensure the nearby Route 15 overpass is safe. We're very grateful that Interstate 66 westbound is now completely open, and 66 Eastbound should resume normal operations by rushhour today. Route 15 is now open in both directions as the bridge did not sustain any serious damage.

Gainesville supervisor Pete Candland said at approximately 9:30 a.m. he has been notified by Virginia Department of Transportation that a vehicle caught fire on Interstate 66, underneath the Route 15 overpass this morning, July 18.

A "Listening Panel" headed by Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland and members of the Prince William County School Board will conduct a town hall meeting on Wednesday,July 20, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Park Valley Church, 4500 Waverly Farm Drive. Haymarket, Attendees are asked to speak out about what they want the county to do in the next five tears to improve property values and to protect and to improve quality of life.

According to the 2015 Crime in Virginia report, 40 percent of the 8,103 motor vehicle thefts reported to VSP in 2015 occurred between June and September. July had the most motor vehicle thefts (909), with August (879), September (746) and June (721) following closely behind. The consensus among law enforcement is that many vehicles reported stolen have the keys inside.
