Prince William Schools cancel after school and evening activities Jan. 21

All Prince William County Public Schools divisionwide after-school and evening activities are canceled for tonight. All after-school and evening activities including night school, GED, and adult education classes, are canceled this evening. SACC and the Next Generation programs will close at 5 p.m. School will continue to operate on a normal schedule for the remainder of today.

Dominion Power files plan to build big solar project in Fauquier

Dominion Virginia Power filed an application with the Virginia State Corporation Commission Jan. 20, to build a 20-megawatt solar project on approximately 125 acres of land owned by the company near the Remington Power Station in Fauquier County. Facility would be capable of generating enough electricity at peak capacity to power 5,000 homes and be operational in 2016.

Evening session of PW Board of Supervisors’ meeting cancelled

The Stone Haven and Birkwood Public Hearings scheduled for the evening session of the Board of County Supervisors' meeting for Tuesday, January 20, have been deferred, according to a memo from Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland. As a result, tonight’s evening session has been cancelled.

Helicopters, officers looking for PWC girl in possible abduction

On January 14th at 1:20PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the 4200 block of Kenton Cir in Dumfries (22025) to investigate a possible abduction. A witness reported to police that a young girl was seen being forced into the backseat of a gray, 4-door sedan by a black male in front of a residence in the above area.

Day-long storm in forecast: Snow and ice will impact both rush hours tomorrow, Jan. 14, says VDOT

Virginia Department of Transportation is asking drivers to prepare for a day-long storm tomorrow that could make driving hazardous in northern Virginia. Drivers are asked to monitor weather forecasts today, and consider teleworking or delaying travel tomorrow. Drivers are also asked to plan for a longer than normal commute, with snow predicted in the morning and hazardous sleet and freezing rain beginning in the afternoon.

Stosch announces retirement from Virginia Senate

State Senator Walter Stosch (R Henrico), one of the senior members of the Virginia Senate confirmed this morning that he won’t be running for re-election in 2015, bringing to an end a 33-year career in the Virginia General Assembly, including the last 23 years in the Senate.
