Crews doing final paving for I-66 widening; expect more off-peak delays in Haymarket area

Virginia Department of Transportation will allow some extended lane closures in off-peak directions on Interstate 66 in the Haymarket area between US 15 and Prince William Parkway for crews to more efficiently complete final paving on the I-66 widening project.

On eastbound I-66, motorists can expect alternating single-lane closures:
• Sundays-Thursdays, between 10 a.m. and 4 a.m. the following day
• Fridays-Saturdays, between 9 p.m. and noon the following day
• There will be no eastbound daytime closures on Saturdays.

On westbound I-66, motorists can expect alternating single-lane closures:
• Sundays-Thursdays, between 9 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. the following day
• Fridays-Saturdays, between 9 p.m. and noon the following day
• There will be no westbound daytime closures on Saturdays.

Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes. VDOT will monitor traffic and make adjustments as necessary to ensure backups are not excessive in either direction.

The I-66 Widening Project will add one regular and one HOV lane in each direction from US 29 in Gainesville to US 15 in Haymarket. The $65 million project is scheduled for completion later this summer.

The adjacent I-66 and Route 15 diverging-diamond interchange project is scheduled for completion in fall 2017.
