The Annual Community Green Day on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. rain or shine. There will be a community cleanup, free shredding, metal recycling, gently used clothing collection and a big vendor expo with representatives ranging from Va. Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, to Mosquito Joe to Doody Calls and many more.

Jim Gehlsen has initiated what he calls a “grow-op,” for customers who want to come to his Evergreen Acres farm in Nokesville once or twice a week and buy organic produce direct from the farmer. The grow-op idea grew out of many discussions he had with a woman whose diet is exclusively organic foods.

Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission reports that William T. Kennard is now Deputy Commissioner at its regional office in Manassas. Kennard also will serve as an administrative law judge for evidentiary and on-the-record hearings under the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act. He will hold hearing dockets in Fairfax and Manassas.

Detectives from the Homicide Unit have identified the body found March 29 in a retention pond in the 7300 block of Williamson Blvd in Manassas (20109). The victim was reported as missing and endangered on Feb. 4. Officer Nathan Probus, Police Department spokesman, said there is no public threat or need for concern as this incident does not appear to be random and no foul play is suspected at this time.
