Virginia to transition to elecronic and phone reporting of game harvesting in September

Beginning Sept. 1, 2021, all hunters (including those who are not required to purchase a license) who harvest a deer, turkey, bear, bobcat, or elk, will need to check their harvest by calling DWR (866-GOT-GAME), logging on to gooutdoorsvirginia.com, or by using the mobile app harvest reporting system, GoOutdoorsVa (free through the app store).

In-water boat show returns to Norfolk after nine-year hiatus

November 9-11, 2018, Norfolk Festevents, Ltd. will host the return of the Norfolk In-Water Boat Show, which a news release describes as "the only major in-water boat show in the Hampton Roads region." The show will take place at the Waterside Marina, Town Point Park, and the newly opened Waterside District.

Passing of Boyd Alexander, 90, of Occoquan

Boyd Alexander was a kind soul and a dear friend who loved Occoquan immensely, chronicled it beautifully in his wonderful photographs, served faithfully on the board of the Occoquan Historical Society, and was always generous with words of gratitude and praise. An officer in the Air Force during the Korean War, he had a long and distinguished career in government.

Sandra Heefner of Powhatan, member of Lake Ridge Baptist Church

Sandra Lea Nelson Heefner, a strong Christian woman who was a member of the Lake Ridge Baptist Church in Woodbridge, VA for more than 30 years, died Dec. 18, 2021. She loved to sing in church and was passionate about teaching young children. A service will be held at Lake Ridge Baptist Church at a later date.

John Loveland, Navy veteran, 45 years in law enforcement, church volunteer, outdoorsman, father

The Family of John Leonard Loveland, who died Feb. 6, 2021, will receive friends and host John's Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021 at Park Valley Church, 4500 Waverly Farm Drive, Haymarket VA 20169. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later time.
