Gainesville's Virginia Cannons 7-and-under baseball team was Top Dawg state champions in baseball.
This is the first time the Cannons have fielded a 7-and-under team. The team was named champions of the May 20 weekend Top Dawg tournament. The team is shown here after taking the number-one spot.

Brentsville District Youth Baseball league a favorite with players, parents, fans.
The baseball league's April 16 spring opener kicked off another season for the 40-plus-year-old league that brings children, parents and even grandparents back to the fields of their youth to once again be the boys (and girls) of summer.

A funeral service for Gary Ray Maness, 62, of Haymarket, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Clover Hill Church, 12310 Bailey Bridge Road, Midlothian, VA 23112, near Richmond. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. Gary went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 12, 2023.
Governor Glenn Youngkin ordered that the flags of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia be flown at half-staff on all state and local buildings and grounds in the Commonwealth of Virginia in memory and respect of the 16th Anniversary of the Virginia Tech shooting. Some 32 people were killed in this incident.
Pat Conroy, who served four consecutive two-year terms as mayor of Occoquan, from July 1998 through June 2006, recently passed away in Florida.
