Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), will hold a fundraising Putting for Pets—Captain’s Choice Golf Tournament at Westfield’s Golf Club in Clifton on WEdnesday, Oct. 23.

Hiking restrictions to lift on Appalachian Trail Wednesday morning; fire 90% contained, NPS says

The 19.8-mile section of the Appalachian Trail that was closed by the Catawba Valley Fire will reopen tomorrow morning, May 2, at 8:00 a.m., according to a National Park Service news release issued shortly after 6 p.m. May 1.

Hikers need to know about fire in Appalachian Trail area near Roanoke; shuttles available

Shuttles for Appalachian Trail hikers are in place to transport hikers from the 311 Gap to the Daleville 220 Park and Ride. A 19.8-mile stretch of the A.T. remains closed. State Route 311 to State Route 220 including the service road to McAffe Knob also remains closed. Firefighters have dealt with numerous downed trees.

Maryland Department of Natural Resources announced that a Delaware resident won the 2018 Maryland Black Bear Conservation Stamp Design Contest, while the award for top Migratory Game Bird Stamp Design went to a resident of Des Moines, Iowa.

Robert “Bob” Seefeldt, veteran, teacher, FFA program specialist, volunteer, global missionary

Robert Arthur Seefeldt, of Woodbridge, VA passed away peacefully on May 23, 2020 while receiving hospice care. Bob and his wife, Kathy, a former chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors and a former Occoquan Supervisor, were among the pioneering families of Lake Ridge. A private service was conducted on June 10, 2020 followed by interment at Quantico National Cemetery.

Robert “Bob” Blevins Jr., retired principal, Woodbridge Lion, founding member Woodbridge church

Robert Lee Blevins, Jr. of Woodbridge, VA, died peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2020. He was 87 years old. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life in the coming months.

Elizabeth Crouch McCuin, PWCS bus driver for 46 years

A private burial service was held at the Gainesville Methodist Cemetery on Friday May 8, 2020 for Elizabeth Crouch McCuin, 78, of Gainesville, Va., who died at home surrounded by her loving family on May 5, 2020. A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held at a later date once it is deemed safe to gather in large groups.
