Prince William County Schools issued the following statement this morning, Feb. 5: "We are sad to report that a PWCS bus driver was killed this morning by a bus reportedly backing out of the service bay at McCuin Transportation Center. An investigation is underway. We are withholding the name pending full notification of family members."
Gov. Ralph Northam was quoted as saying Feb. 5, “This year, the General Assembly is rightly working to change the law to lift a freeze on electric utility rates that was originally devised to help utility providers cope with federal regulations that have since been repealed. The goal of that legislation should be simple: Give Virginians as much of their money back as possible, restore oversight to ensure that utility companies do not overcharge ratepayers for power, and make Virginia a leader in clean energy and electrical grid modernization."
Prince William Committee of 100 has assembled a group of transportation experts to talk about the future of transportation in Prince William County at the Committee's Feb. 15 dinner meeting/forum at the Wyndham Garden Hotel, 10800 Vandor Lane, in Manassas.

Prince William County Public Schools Superintendent Steven L. Walts will present the proposed Fiscal Year 2019 Capital Improvements Program/Budget (CIP/Budget) to the School Board at the Board’s regular meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 7. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.
The Underground Railroad Network to Freedom at Leesylvania State Park will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in February. The property that became Leesylvania State Park had a part to play with the flight of two runaway slaves, as well as a slave who escaped captivity in 1848.

On Feb. 23, visitors can actually spend the night in the slave quarters on site. Historians and interpreters will be there to help people learn about the life of those who were living and working at Ben Lomond.

In 1894, Frederick Douglass gave a speech in the area. Those who go to the Lucasville School near the fairgrounds in Manasas on Feb. 10 will have the opportunity to hear that speech and learn more about the life of Douglass.
