Virginia pet owners and law enforcement are reminded that animals cannot be left out in the cold without adequate shelter and care, and that there can be serious legal consequences, including charges of animal cruelty, if an animal is left in the cold without adequate shelter.
Sen. Mark Warner and a group of 15 senators from both parties took to the Senate floor Jan. 25 to call for a temporary reopening of the government to allow for a negotiation on a bipartisan border security bill. The President embraced this bargain in a Rose Garden press conference, and the Senate passed that agreement unanimously.

Firefighters responded to the report of a house fire at 1946 Richmond Ave, Woodbridge, at 8:41 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25.
Denise Simms, a Lake Ridge preschool special education teacher, is hosting an arts-based fundraiser to celebrate her 15 years as a cancer survivor.
The arts sampler event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., at Old Bridge United Methodist Church. The church is located at 3699 Old Bridge Rd. in Lake Ridge.
Soup-er Bingo to benefit the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry will be held this Saturday, Jan. 26, from 3 to 5 p..m. at Alvey Elementary School, 5300 Waverly Farm Drive, Haymarket, VA 20169.

Supervisors allocated a total of $30,000 to support three area food banks – Action in the Community Through Service (ACTS), the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry and SERVE, which is run by Northern Virginia Family Services. Each food bank received $10,000 each after they noted a significant increase in demand for food over the past several weeks.
Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA), along with Sens. Tim Kaine (D-VA), Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), wrote to Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) General Manager and CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld to express safety and security concerns regarding the possibility that Metro may award a contract to build its newest 8000-series rail cars to a Chinese manufacturing company.
