Gov. Glenn Youngkin has ordered the flags of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia be flown at half-staff April 16 in memory and respect for the 17th Anniversary of the Virginia Tech shooting which took the lives of 32 people.
The new on-time graduation rate of 91.4 percent for students who entered Prince William County high schools in the fall of 2011 and graduated in 2015 continues a steady climb from 83 percent seven years ago, and again outpaces statewide results, according to a news release from Prince William County Schools.
Prince William County Police detectives are currently on the scene of a shooting in the 4300 block of Wrangler Ln., Woodbridge, and are conducting an investigation. One victim has sustained a gunshot injury to the lower body. Altercation is believed to have taken place prior, according to Sergeant Jonathan L. Perok of the Prince William County Police Public Information Office.
Prince William County Bar Association will sponsor a Candidates’ Forum open to the public for candidates for Commonwealth’s Attorney and Clerk of Court at Manassas City Hall, 9027 Center Street, Manassas, VA 20110 on Friday, Oct. 23, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Rabies is a deadly virus that can kill anyone who gets it. Every year, an estimated 40,000 people in the U.S. receive a series of shots known as post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) due to potential exposure to rabies. Prince William County Animal Control says there are steps you can take to keep yourself and your family safe from rabies throughout the year.
On Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Loudoun Campus of Northern Virginia Community College will host Loudoun County STEM Day. The event is free and open to the public. Loudoun County STEM Day showcases opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math.

Hundreds of choral students from middle and high schools across the county are practicing for the upcoming All County Chorus event on October 23 and 24 at Patriot High School. The event will challenge select singers as they rehearse new music with guest conductors.
