Community meeting tonight in Manassas on proposed Sports & Events Center

Prince William County is seeking comments from community members about the proposed Indoor Sports & Events Center tonight, April 10, at the Ben Lomond Pat White Center (The Barn )just off Sudley Manor Drive at 10501 Copeland Drive, in Manassas. Meeting is 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Eaglet could be named “Honor,” the name suggested by Antietam Elementary kindergarteners

The kindergarten classes at Antietam Elementary School have been watching two eaglets through the Earth Conservation Corps live eagle cam for several weeks. Their suggested name of "Honor" is one of five picked from 250 entries. Now the public gets to vote on the five names.

Virginia 4th graders exceed US 4th graders in math and in top four groups in reading

Virginia fourth graders outperformed their nationwide peers in mathematics and reading on the national tests which are also known as the Nation’s Report Card, according to a news release issued jointly by Gov. Ralph Northam and the Virginia Department of Education.

Student artists make a splash at Water Art Invitational

Colgan High School sophomore Lierin Simms was the grand prize winner n the 2018 Water Art Invitational, sponsored annually by the Prince William County Service Authority. Interpreting the theme "Water Makes Everything Happen," Simms' painting captured the importance of clean water to humans and how we impact the environment.

PWC teachers of the future, now Educators Rising, capture awards at annual conference

Prince William County Public Schools recently hosted the annual Virginia State Conference for Educators Rising (formerly Future Educators Association). Ten PWC high school students won awards.

Gar-Field graduate building libraries in Ghana to boost next generation of leaders

Samantha Boateng organized the Read2Lead campaign as her International Baccalaureate (IB) Studies Creativity Activity Service Project at Gar-Field High School. She began collecting book donations to send to Ghana. With help from her school community, the campaign was a huge success and it inspired her to go a step further. She founded the Read2Lead non-profit organization.

Chris Yung Elem. parent leads donation of 35 books to school library in honor of Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month, the mother of a Chris Yung Elementary School student and her sorority sisters set out to compile a set of books that positively feature main characters who are black. They donated the 35-book collection to the school library.
