Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative is preparing for snow that weather forecasters say could reach Northern Virginia on Friday, Jan. 22. Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey A. Stewart said Jan. 18 he will propose at the Board of County Supervisors' meeting Jan. 19 that the county waive all fees associated with the county issuance of concealed handgun permits.

As part of National Radon Action Month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is encouraging all residents to test their homes for radon. According to the EPA, test kits are available in home improvement centers, hardware stores and online at a cost of approximately $20. The kits are simple to use with easy testing and mailing instructions, the EPA added.

Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) announced Jan. 11 that a federal appropriation of $279,488 for calendar year 2016 will allow 5,000 low-income, senior Virginians to receive a monthly allotment of food from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
