Sheriff Glendell Hill, who serves Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park, has announced that his office in Manassas is now accepting applications for the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute (VSI) Scholarship Program for the 2016-2017 school year.

Snow is melting and pooling in travel lanes and will turn into ice overnight. Therefore, VSP advises those who are having to travel overnight or early Monday morning to use extreme caution. Black ice will be a serious threat and drivers are advised to keep their speeds down, buckle up, and remain alert to slick spots on the road.

Virginia State Police report there are a number of people walking in the roads and putting themselves at risk due to the slick conditions. If you DO have to walk, Va. State Police urge that you wear bright, reflective clothing…walk against traffic so you can see any oncoming vehicles…and do not walk distracted (no texting or earbuds).

From midnight Saturday through 10 a.m. Saturday, Virginia State Police have responded to 72 traffic crashes and 343 disabled vehicles statewide. There is only storm-related traffic death (City of Chesapeake) reported at this time.
