Free motorcycle safety course April 20 at NVCC-Manassas, approved by Va. State Police

Warmer weather traditionally leads to an increase of motorists of all kinds on Virginia roads, especially motorcycles. With that increased traffic comes the increased likelihood of motorcycle and vehicle interactions. Virginia State Police is once again offering its “Ride 2 Save Lives” motorcycle self-assessment courses across the Commonwealth in hopes of making those interactions as safe as possible.

Nighttime closing of HOV lanes on I-395 on Feb. 3-4 for inspection

Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the northern portion of the I-395 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes during overnight hours beginning at 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 3-4. The closures are needed for crews to inspect and assess roadway and sign conditions as part of preliminary work related to the future extension of the I-395 Express Lanes.

VDOT working on 16,000 subdivision streets; goal is one passable lane by 6 a.m. Wednesday

Crews are making significant progress on 16,000 subdivision streets across northern Virginia. The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) goal is to make one lane of all subdivisions passable by 6 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27. VDOT road report for Tuesday, Jan. 26

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reports that interstates and primaries in northern Virginia are mostly in passable condition, and crews are making significant progress on secondary roads and subdivision streets.

Manassas Park extends snow emergency to Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m.

The City Manager has put in placed parking prohibitions on all City of Manassas Park Streets designated as snow emergency routes until 6 pm, Tuesday, January 26, 2016.

Va, State Police respond to 7000+ calls during the blizzard of 2016

Snow is melting and pooling in travel lanes and will turn into ice overnight. Therefore, VSP advises those who are having to travel overnight or early Monday morning to use extreme caution. Black ice will be a serious threat and drivers are advised to keep their speeds down, buckle up, and remain alert to slick spots on the road.
