Several projects in the works for Litter Awareness Month in PWC

Keep Prince William Beautiful (KPWB) is marking Litter Awareness Month. The month of April, or Prince William County's Litter Awareness Month, gives KPWB the opportunity to raise litter awareness, the laws associated with litter, and the social and environmental effects that littering has on our community.

Dale City water system to be flushed for about 30 days beginning April 6

Virginia American Water said March 30 that hydrant flushing is scheduled to begin in its Prince William system from Monday, April 6, through early May. The routine work is being done as part of the company’s annual pipeline flushing program to improve water service by flushing out mineral deposits and sediment from water mains.

Hazmat crews set up environmental defense after oil found on stream in Manassas

Prince William County hazmat crews smelled petroleum and saw a suspected petroleum product in the tributary feeding into Lake Linden, a storm water management pond, off Williamson Blvd. in Manassas this morning, March 10, according to a news release from Prince William County Fire & Rescue.

March 15-21, 2015 is Virginia Agriculture Week. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services suggests that it’s the perfect opportunity to give credit where credit is due. During this special week, take a minute to thank a farmer.

Manassas city’s “Recyclefest” set for April 4

Take household hazardous waste, electronic waste, gently used clothing and shred paper documents for free where there will be a recycling guessing game, a robotics recycling project demonstration, info booths and a recycling truck for inspection at Manassas city's April 4 "Recyclefest" at the 8305 Quarry Road transfer station from 8 a.m. to noon.

PWC Schools have eye on potential bad weather today, March 3

SPCA calls March 3 town meeting on “critical” need for new PWC animal shelter

Prince William SPCA invites the community to come out for a special town hall meeting to discuss the Prince William County Animal Shelter on Tuesday, March 3 at 7 PM in Chinn Library’s Community Room.

Natural resource conservation, environmental studies scholarships available

Four $1000 scholarships are available for students majoring in or showing a strong desire to major in a course curriculum related to natural resource conservation and/or environmental studies. Deadline to apply is March 13.
