Virginia State Police is mourning the loss of its 63rd member to die in the line of duty since 1932. Special Agent Michael T. Walter, 45, succumbed to his injuries from a shooting shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday (May 27, 2017) at VCU Medical Center in Richmond.

On Friday, May 26, 2017, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Manassas City Police responded to the 9700 block of Pickett Ln for a report of a shooting. Officers located an adult male victim who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound.
Virginia State Police and City of Richmond Police are actively searching for a male subject who shot a Virginia State Police Special Agent Friday evening (May 26) in the 1900 block of Redd St. in City of Richmond. The suspect is described as a black male of medium build approximately 5’8 to 5’10 in height. He has close-cropped hair and was wearing a red, possibly plaid, button-up shirt with ¾ inch sleeves and khaki cargo shorts or pants.
