UVA School of Medicine reports largest NIH research grant in school’s history

The University of Virginia School of Medicine reports it has received $146.3 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health in fiscal 2019, the largest amount in the school’s history. In one notable milestone, the federal Food and Drug Administration just approved an artificial pancreas developed at UVA to free people with type 1 diabetes from the painful ritual of daily needlesticks.

Prince William County Va. Schools are evaluating new books for mathematics. Until Dec. 21, the public has a chance to review and comment on the proposed textbooks, which cover from kindergarten math to calculus.

United Methodists coming to Manassas to discuss immigration

Representatives of 335,000 United Methodists of the Virginia Conference will gather in Manassas Oct. 1 to discuss issues of immigration as it relates to their faith. The meeting was called by Bishop Charlene Kammerer.

A funeral service for Otis Charles Luttrell will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Sudley United Methodist Church in Manassas, Va., with burial to follow at the Sudley United Methodist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church from 12 Noon- 2 p.m. before the service.
