It's Fire Prevention Week and reports indicate 25% of home fire deaths were caused by fires that start in the bedroom and half of home fire deaths occur between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when most people are sleeping. Make sure your regular smoke alarm is working. Get vibrating or flashing smoke alarms for people with hearing loss.
On Friday, Oct. 2, at approximately 10:30 a.m., fire and rescue units were dispatched to a structure fire in a single family home located in the 6200 block of Oakland Drive in Dale City.

People in the western end of Prince William County now have a convenient, respectable and patriotic way to retire their worn American flags. Boy Scout troops in the Bull Run District constructed a special bin for the collection of the flags at the Balls Ford Rd. compost facility.

Intermittent full closures of up to 30 minutes each will occur on eastbound Interstate 66 between Route 123 and Nutley Street and westbound I-66 between I-495 and Nutley Street late Tuesday night, October 6 into Wednesday morning, October 7, and again from late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, October 8, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
