The recent School Board decision to close schools for the March 1 presidential primary election means a day off for students, teachers, and many other employees, with no make-up required. Employees with 250-day contracts are expected to work.

Nighttime closing of HOV lanes on I-395 on Feb. 3-4 for inspection

Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the northern portion of the I-395 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes during overnight hours beginning at 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 3-4. The closures are needed for crews to inspect and assess roadway and sign conditions as part of preliminary work related to the future extension of the I-395 Express Lanes.

Tom Udall (D-NM), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Martin Heinrich (D-NM) to introduce the Fairness and Independence in Redistricting (FAIR) Act to take partisanship out of the congressional redistricting process by requiring states to establish independent, bipartisan redistricting commissions.
