Prince William County Solid Waste will host a series of free workshops, exhibits, rain barrel demonstrations and more Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the plaza in front of the county's McCoart Building at 1 County Complex Court, Woodbridge. There will be free compost samples, door prizes and plant sales.

The Dale City Civic Association's High School Teacher of the Year was Jennifer Boyko, science teacher at Freedom High School. Boyko views teaching as the honor of influencing lives beyond a subject by modeling the importance of healthy communication, empathy, passion, and compassion.

Iqra Noor, a senior at Freedom High School, is the winner of the John D. Jenkins Youth Citizen of the Year Award, presented by the Dale City Civic Association.

Aimen Khan is the winner of the David G. Brickley Youth Environmental Conservation Award presented annually by the Dale City Civic Association. Currently, she is conducting research on invasive species, air quality, and energy sources in the Dale City area. She hopes her research will assist in the building of a local green house.
