The latest scam: DNA Testing

A new Medicare scam involves "free" DNA swab tests as health screenings, according to an ALERT issued by the Virginia AARP. Before agreeing to have your mouth swabbed, AARP warns that genetic tests must be ordered by your doctor and must be medically necessary to be covered by Medicare. Scammers are using” free DNA tests” to steal your insurance information and sensitive medical information.

US Sens. Warner & Kaine have asked Congress to fund I-81 upgrades

U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) have requested additional funding for vital improvements to Interstate 81 (I-81) to enhance safety and reduce traffic congestion. In letters to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) and the U.S. Department of Transportation, they say more than one-third of all trucks that drive through Virginia travel on I-81, which suffers from traffic delays and 2,000+ crashes annually.

So you want to be a doctor!  GMU Manassas campus gets $50,000 grant for med school feasibility study

Prince William County has awarded a $50,000 grant to kick-off a Medical School Feasibility and Planning Study by George Mason University. The Claude Moore Foundation has contributed $200,000 and the university will cover the remaining costs and conduct the study, with preliminary results anticipated in early fall. GMU already has a pre-med program with readily available laboratories and the classroom space needed to meet the goal of accreditation by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia in 2021, at the earliest.
