Va. Court of Appeals upholds ban on display of nooses on private property with intent to intimidate

In a case before the Virginia Court of Appeals, Attorney General Mark R. Herring's office has successfully defended Virginia's statute that bans "displaying [a] noose on property of another or a highway or other public place with intent to intimidate." The Court found that the statute does not violate the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, and that display of a noose on private property can still constitute display in a "public place."

Va. Governor’s Mansion to receive Christmas tree Nov. 28 from Staunton grower

Bill Francisco of Francisco Farms, Staunton, will present a 12 ft. Canaan fir Christmas tree to decorate the first floor of the Virginia Governor's Mansion in Richmond. He won the right to donate the tree at this year’s annual meeting of the Virginia Christmas Tree Growers Association. His tree was selected as Grand Champion, and he will present a similar, fresh tree to First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe.

Save Our Homes Alliance to address Manassas City Council on housing issues Nov. 28

On Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, Save Our Homes Alliance will address the Manassas City Council about concerns over the eviction of 40+ families from the East End Mobile Home Park. The Alliance is comprised of East End homeowners, Manassas residents and supporters countywide. The Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm with citizens time at 7:30 pm.

Manassas school boardman Scott Albrecht honored as regional School Board Member of Year

Scott Albrecht, a 16-year veteran of the School Board of the City of Manassas, was recently honored at the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) state conference, as School Board Member of the Year for the Northeast region. VSBA recognizes one outstanding school board member from each of the nine VSBA regions who exemplifies local involvement in promoting student achievement.
