Manassas & Manassas Park Democrats to caucus for convention delegates

Manassas and Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee (MMPCDC) has scheduled assembled caucuses on Monday, April 18, at 7:30 pm to elect delegates and alternates from both cities to the Virginia 10th Congressional District and State Democratic Party Conventions.

Caucus participation—including eligiblity to run for election as a delegate or alternate—is open to all registered voters in the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park who sign a standard Democratic declaration form.

The caucuses are scheduled to assemble on April 18 at the Manassas Park Police Station, 329 Manassas Dr, in the first floor conference room.  The doors will open at 7 p.m. for check in and close promptly at 7:30 p.m.  Those who wish to participate in the voting must arrive before 7:30 p.m.

The caucuses will elect a total of 12 state delegates and 3 alternates who will attend the 10th Congressional District Democratic Convention in Sterling on May 14 and the State Democratic Convention in Richmond on June 18.  National delegates to the Democratic National Convention will be elected at both of those conventions.

All candidates for state delegate or alternate must be pledged to either Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders and prefile with the MMPCDC for election by Monday, April 11, at 5 p.m.  Delegates and alternates are asked to pay a voluntary $20 filing fee to cover administrative costs, but there is no fee to vote at the caucuses.

Manassas’s allocation, based on the results of the Virginia Democratic Primary, is 5 delegates and 1 alternate for Hillary Clinton and 4 delegates and 1 alternate for Bernie Sanders.  Manassas Park’s allocation is 2 delegates and 1 alternate for Hillary Clinton and one delegate for Bernie Sanders.

The form to prefile for election as a delegate or alternate may be downloaded from the MMPCDC website, manassascitydemocrats.com, at [ http://bit.ly/1qb6Ofc ] and must be returned to MMPCDC by April 11 at 5 p.m.

Caucuses may be cancelled six days in advance if the numbers of prefiled candidates is less than or equal to the number of allocated slots.  A notice of such cancellations will be posted on the MMPCDC website by April 12 at 7:30 pm.
