After serving a little more than half the term to which he was elected, Ryan Sawyers, Chairman-at-large of the Prince William County School Board, resigned his position today, March 7. HIs resignation was sent in a letter written to Lillie Jessie, the school board's vice chairman who also represents the Occoquan District.

Virginia Department of Transportation says its crews are mobilizing for precipitation that is forecasted to fall starting tonight into Wednesday morning. VDOT asks drivers to keep monitoring forecasts and to plan ahead for an impacted Wednesday morning commute.

NOVEC has restored service to most of its 40,000-plus customers who lost power during the storm, and is now pouring all its efforts into getting the lights on for approximately 250 more customers by midweek. With 100+ broken utility poles, crews have to cut away branches; remove power lines, transformers, and other equipment on the pole; erect and secure a new pole; and then reattach lines and equipment. It's time-intensive and dangerous work, according to NOVEC.
Manassas is looking for volunteers at five April events to "Keep Manassas Beautiful." Manassas residents and businesses are invited to adopt a cleanup project of their choosing and add to the city's charm, beauty and appeal.
"Virginia law offers protections for consumers who find themselves in need of things like tree removal or home repair after extreme weather. Attorney General says state residents should "carefully review any terms before paying for any good or service" and contact his office as soon as possible if you think you're being illegally overcharged or suspect someone may be running a scam."
The School Board of the City of Manassas will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. during its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 13, at Manassas City Hall Council Chambers, 9027 Center Street, to receive the views of city residents about the proposed FY2019 Budget for Manassas City Public Schools
Due to the high winds, the Potomac Mills Mall sign along I-95 was damaged. Structural engineers noted that the sign poses a significant threat to the surrounding area. Potentially the sign could fall onto I-95 southbound. Potomac Mills Mall property owners said they will not attempt to remove the sign until winds die down enough to allow safe removal.
