Occoquan Town Council meeting to be held in conjunction with celestial event

Occoquan VA Town Council members and members of the public may be able to see some of the Transit of Venus, weather permitting, on June 5 when the council meets outdoors just across the Occoquan River in Fairfax County VA. Occoquan Mayor Earnie Porta plans to provide his personal telescope with sun filters for the community to use at the event beginning at about 6 p.m.

PWC school officials seek deferral of hearing on US 15 bus facility proposal

Prince William County VA school officials have asked the Prince William County Planning Commission to defer the scheduled June 6 public hearing on a proposed school bus parking facility on US 15 in Haymarket VA. According to a news release, the school division needs additional time to consider the issues raised by the community at a May 22 public meeting.

Last day for Manassas City Public Schools is June 13

The last day of school for students in grades K-8 who attend City of Manassas VA public schools has been changed. The final day of school for the 2011-12 school year is Wednesday, June 13.

Lucasville Road in Manassas will close for repairs June 20

The Virginia Department of Transportation will detour traffic off Lucasville Road in Manassas VA for about five months beginning June 20 to replace a drainage structure that will ease flooding and improve drainage. Traffic will use VA 234 (Dumfries Road, Godwin Drive and Hastings Drive for the duration of the road work.

Firefighters rescue dog from Memorial Night house fire in Haymarket

Firefighters from Prince William County VA successfully extinguished a house fire in Haymarket and rescued the family's dog who was in the basement when the blaze erupted, late in the evening of Memorial Day Monday.
