Parts of I-95 in PWC will be closed Sunday thru Thursday nights until Fall

Beginning Sunday night, April 28, weather permitting, a portion of the northbound and southbound I-95 general purpose lanes in Prince William County will have nighttime single- and double-lane closures until late fall.

Public meeting held on Ferlazzo school site; second public meeting April 16

A new institution of public learning on the "Ferlazzo site" at Spriggs and Minnieville Roads is set to open at the start of the 2016-17 school year. Plans for its use as an elementary school (original plan) or a larger Porter Traditional School (revised plan) must be decided by the Prince William County School Board soon to allow the building, modeled after Yorkshire Elementary School, to be properly configured.

Eric Marx named interim executive director at PRTC

Eric Marx, PRTC’s Director of Planning and Operations, has been appointed interim executive director of the transportation agency effective May 15. PRTC’s current Executive Director Alfred Harf informed the Commission earlier this year of his intent to resign after 16+ years as the organization’s leader and agreed to time his departure to suit the Commission’s need for an orderly transition.

New for high school students: Pre-College Summer Academy at NOVA-Manassas

Two college courses just for high school juniors and seniors will meet at NOVA’s Innovation Park Center July 6-30. Students may select “History of Western Civilization I” (HIS 101) or “Introduction to Computer Applications and Concepts” (ITE 115). Each class awards three college credits for successful completion; dual credit might be available through the student’s high school. Info session on May 2.

County animal shelter looking for temporary foster families

Shelter staff is asking the public to provide foster care – for kittens in particular – since pregnant cats and kittens start showing up at the shelter in the spring. The shelter is also looking for people to foster other animals, such as dogs and puppies, with minor ailments, that need treatment before they can be adopted. Foster families need only provide a place for the animals to live. The shelter takes care of the rest.

PWC supervisors support move to delete Bi-County Parkway from comp plan

Prince William Board of County Supervisors April 14 supported a resolution put forth by Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland to initiate the process of removing the Bi-County Parkway from the Comprehensive Plan.

Margaret Mitchell McLeod Price, a teacher at Stonewall Middle School (now Unity Braxton) in Manassas for 26 years until her retirement in 1999, died Jan. 26, 2024. She was an avid traveler and had visited 49 states and numerous foreign countries.
