SCC moratorium on utility service cut-offs to end Sept. 16

Virginia's State Corporation Commission (SCC) is extending the existing general moratorium on utility shutoffs from Aug. 31 until Sept. 16. The extension gives the General Assembly, currently in special session, additional time to enact any legislation it may choose addressing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on utility customers, an SCC news release said.

Police charge Woodbridge man with murder stemming from July 24 parking lot stabbing

On August 14, 2020 detectives with the Homicide Unit arrested the suspect involved in the fatal stabbing of Charlie DAVIS III which occurred in the parking lot of the Babylon Café located at 3081 Golansky Blvd in Woodbridge on July 24. The investigation revealed that the victim and the accused were involved in a physical altercation when the victim was stabbed by the accused, the police report said.

Virginia officials temporarily close Mason Neck State Park in Lorton

Effective immediately, Mason Neck State Park in Lorton north of Woodbridge off US 1 is closed to the public until further notice. Virginia park officials said the park is closed after an employee tested positive for COVID-19. The employee is currently at home in quarantine.

Northam announces $70 million economic recovery fund for 7000 small businesses and nonprofits in Va.

Gov. Ralph Northam has announced $70 million for small businesses and nonprofit organizations whose normal operations were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The funding will come through Rebuild VA, a new economic recovery fund, and grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to approximately 7,000 applicants to cover eligible expenses.

New railroad bridge for passenger traffic in Northern Virginia?

Rep. Rob Wittman is asking Congress to approve and fud a new Long Bridge to ease congestion along the I-95 corridor and cut down on the commuter travel time that plagues many VA-01 residents. The construction of a separate passenger-only bridge will allow freight to move more freely from the Port of Virginia, taking thousands of large trucks off of Virginia roadways.

Covid-19 testing Friday, May 29, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Hylton Chapel

Prince William County government, in conjunction with the Prince William Health District, Virginia Department of Health and Mako Medical Laboratories, is offering free, drive-thru testing for COVID-19 on Friday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hylton Memorial Chapel, 14640 Potomac Mills Road in Woodbridge. Gates will open at 8:30 a.m. and tickets distributed on a first-come, first-served basis with an allocated return time. To manage traffic flow in and around the chapel, those interested in attending should arrive at 8:30 a.m.

County says it will help eateries and craft breweries get temporary permits

On June 16, the Board of County Supervisors will hold a public hearing to establish a new simplified and expedited process for issuing a Temporary Activity Permit (TAP) for Outdoor Seating.
