Today, Nov. 5 is last day for absentee voting and other voting information

Here’s what you need to know about voting before Election Day rolls around on Nov. 8, according to a Prince William County news release:

Saturday, Nov. 5, is the last day to vote in-person absentee. Locations to vote in-person absentee include:

• James J. McCoart Administration Building at 1 County Complex Court in Woodbridge

• Prince William County Office of Elections at 9250 Lee Ave. in Manassas

• Dr. A.J. Ferlazzo Building at 15941 Donald Curtis Drive in Woodbridge

• Haymarket Gainesville Community Library at 14870 Lightner Road in Haymarket

• Department of Motor Vehicles at 2731 Caton Hill Road in Woodbridge

All voting locations will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. Visit the Prince William County Office of Elections website at http://www.pwcvotes.com for a complete list of qualifications allowing in-person absentee voting.

You must have a photo ID in order to vote. The forms of photo identification that will be accepted at the polling places include a driver’s license, identification issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, a valid U.S. passport, a valid employee identification card, a Virginia voter identification card or a valid identification card from a Virginia college or university. People without one of the required forms of identification can go to the Prince William Office of Elections at 9250 Lee Ave. in Manassas for free voter ID, even on Election Day, according to the Virginia Department of Elections website.

Know what’s on the ballot. In addition to the presidential election, Prince William County residents will be voting on who they will send to the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1st, 10th and 11th Congressional Districts depending on where they live in the county. People can find their voting district and read the two referendums included on this year’s ballot at elections.virginia.gov.

Know where you go to vote. Residents can see where to vote by visiting the Virginia Department of Elections at elections.virginia.gov and filling in their name, date of birth, the last four digits of their Social Security number and locality.

Understand how you will vote. People who haven’t voted since the last presidential election will find a new way of voting when they arrive at the polling place. The county is using new voting machines that use scanners and paper instead of the older touch screen machines. See a video tutorial on using the machines on the County’s YouTube channel.

Don’t wait until Election Day if you have questions. The Virginia Department of Elections is available to answer voter-related questions between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays by calling 800-552-9745.
