Stafford County hires Acting Administrator from Blacksburg area

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors has announced the appointment of Craig Meadows as the county’s new Interim County Administrator, effective April 3, 2024.

With a distinguished career spanning 34 years, Meadows will be joining Stafford County from Montgomery County, VA (Blacksburg), from which he recently retired after serving as its County Administrator for 14 years.

“His extensive knowledge of local governance and proven track record of success make him an excellent choice to lead Stafford and work with the Board during this transitional period. In his new role,” a Stafford County news release said.

Meg Bohmke, Chair of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors. was quoted as saying, “Meadows will work closely with the Board of Supervisors and County staff “to ensure the continued delivery of essential services and the implementation of the Board’s vision for Stafford.”

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors has also initiated a national search for a new County Administrator. The national search will be conducted with the assistance of Baker Tilly, a professional recruitment firm specializing in executive searches for local government positions. The Board of Supervisors invites qualified candidates from across the nation to apply for the County Administrator position. Interested individuals are encouraged to visit the firm’s website for more information on how to apply.

The news release said Meadows has served in the North Carolina and Virginia public sectors for 34+ years, most recently in Montgomery County, VA for 14 of those years. He recently retired from Montgomery County with a portfolio of more than 20 successful construction and renovation projects. He has championed initiatives to enhance education, public safety, recreation, and vital infrastructure, particularly advocating for broadband access in rural areas.

He served in several leadership roles, including those of the Montgomery County Economic Development Authority, the Montgomery Regional Tourism Board, the Virginia Association of Counties, the Virginia Local Government Management Association, and the International City/County Management Association.

PW Police report passenger dies from injuries sustained in an April 15 traffic collision

The investigation revealed the driver of a 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 Pickup truck was traveling westbound on Yates Ford Rd. approaching Evans Ford Rd. when a 1993 Buick Roadmaster traveling eastbound on Yates Ford Rd. entered the intersection in front of the truck’s path of travel.
